The Tale of the Body Thief - Anne Rice
Ich hatte nach Interview mit einem Vampir angefangen auch die anderen Bänder der Vampir-Reihe von Anne Rice zu lesen. Vor kurzem habe ich den 4.Teil beendet 'The Tale of the Body Thief' von 1985. Das Buch handelt hauptsächlich vom Vampir Lestat. Dieser sucht nach seiner Karriere als Rockstar ein eher ruhiges Leben. Eines Nachts bemerkt er jedoch, dass er verfolgt wird. Kurz darauf gibt sich der 'Körper-Dieb' zu sehen und bietet ihm einen Tausch an. Ein Tausch der Lestat vieles bringen könnte, was er die letzten Jahre in seinem unsterblichen Leben vermisst hat. Doch ist er wirklich bereit diesen Preis zu zahlen?
Was ich an den Geschichten von Anne Rice mag, ist das hier nicht geschönigt wird. Vampire werden weiterhin als böse und unberechenbar gezeigt, obwohl sie auch Gefühle entwickeln können. Und genau darauf liegt der Fokus in diesem Band. Lestat weiß nicht genau was er fühlen soll und lässt sich daher in alle Höhen und Tiefen treiben. Er reflektiert sowohl sein vampirisches- als auch menschliches Leben in allen Facetten und versucht dann für sich eine Entscheidung zu treffen. Landschaft und Umgebung sind in diesem Kontext eher unwichtig, es geht um die Vergänglichkeit des Lebens und den Verlust von Anderen.
Auch die anderen bereits bekannten Figuren wie Armand, Louis, Marius und David kommen in der Geschichte vor. Sie spiegeln für Lestat die beiden Seiten zwischen denen er sich entscheiden muss. Sie spielen kleinere oder größere Rollen, gemessen an ihrem Einfluss auf die Situation.
Alles in allem hat mir das Buch sehr gut gefallen. Die Geschichte ist spannend und gut erzählt. Der Leser findet sich trotz fehlender Information schnell in das Umfeld ein und wird an der Handlung festgehalten.

The book mainly deals with the Vampire Lestat. He is looking for a quiet life after his career as a rock star. One night, however, he realizes he is being persecuted. Shortly thereafter, the 'body-thief' can be seen and offers him a swap. A change with wich Lestat could do much things that he missed the last years in his immortal life. But is he really willing to pay this price?
What I like about the stories of Anne Rice is that this is not beautified. Vampires continue to be depicted as evil and unpredictable, although they can also develop feelings. And this is the focus of this volume. Lestat does not know exactly what he should feel and can therefore be drifted into all heights and depths. He reflects both his vampirical and human life in all facets and then tries to make a decision for himself. In this context, the landscape and the surrounding area are unimportant. It is about the transience of life and the loss of others.
The other well-known figures such as Armand, Louis, Marius and David also appear in the story. They reflect for Lestat the two sides between which he must decide. They play smaller or larger roles, measured by their influence on the situation.
All in all I liked the book very much. The story is exciting and well told. Despite the lack of information, the reader finds himself quickly in the environment and is held to the action.
