Diana Gabaldon veröffentlichte ihren ersten Roman 1991. Damals ahnte sie noch nicht, dass sie mit "Feuer und Stein" den Auftakt für eine Serie geschrieben hatte, die weltweit Millionen Leser finden sollte: die "Highland-Saga". Geboren wurde Gabaldon 1952 in Flagstaff, Arizona. In ihrem "ersten Leben" war sie Honorarprofessorin für Tiefseebiologie und Zoologie und Herausgeberin eines Wissenschaftsmagazins. Plot:

Claire kehrt 20 Jahre später wieder nach Schottland zurück - mit ihrer Tochter Brianna. Hier begibt sie sich auf die Suche nach Namen, von Personen die in Culloden waren. Ob sie dort überlebt haben oder nicht. Unterstütz wird sie von Sohn des alten Reverend. Die Story setzt dort an wo sie aufgehört hat, auf der Flucht vor den Engländern lassen sich Jamie und Claire in Frankreich nieder in der Hoffnung Bonnie Prince Charlie aufhalten zu können und das Massaker von Culloden zu verhindern.

Charaktere:

Hauptcharaktere sind weiterhin James Fraser und Claire Beauchamp. Jedoch wird jetzt auch noch ihre erwachsene Tochter Brianna mit hinein geworfen. Brianna ist Jamie sehr ähnlich, sie hat feuerrote Haare und eine sture Art. Brianna weiß nichts von ihrer Herkunft. Wir erfahren, dass Frank sie wie seine eigene Tochter groß gezogen hat , er jedoch verstorben ist.

Auch neu ist Jamies Verwandtschaft in Frankreich. So wie sein Cousine Jared. Jared ist Weinhändler, er versucht Jamie zu seinem Partner zu machen, was diesem dann auch gelingt. In Frankreich selber machen sich beide mit dem Hof des Königs bekannt und lernen Prince Charlie kennen.

Setting:

Das Buch spielt hauptsächlich in Frankreich. Jamie und Claire sind in Paris. Jedoch steht die Rahmenhandlung im Jahre 1986 in Iverness, wo Claire versucht das Schicksal der Männer von Lallybroch zu erfahren.

Das Cover gleicht dem von 'Feuer und Stein'. Es ist in Orange. Darauf zu sehen ist ein Kelch.

Fazit:

Das Buch ist eine gelungene Fortführung von 'Feuer und Stein'. Am Anfang ein wenig verwirrend, da wir immer zwischen Claire's Leben in 1968 und ihrem Leben mit Jamie springen. Aber alles in allem hat mir die Story gut gefallen. Der Schreibstil ist wie gewöhnlich gut zu verfolgen und es macht Spaß zu lesen.

Plot:

Claire returns 20 years later back to Scotland - with her daughter Brianna. Here she goes in search of names of people who were in Culloden. Whether they survived there or not. Supporting them is the  son of the old Reverend. The story sets up where they left off, on the run from the British.  Jamie and Claire moved to France to hope to be able to stop  Bonnie Prince Charlie and to prevent the massacre of Culloden.

characters:

Main characters are still James Fraser and Claire Beauchamp. However, now even her adult daughter Brianna is thrown into it. Brianna is very similar to Jamie, she has fiery red hair and a stubborn nature. Brianna knows nothing of her origin. We learn that Frank brought her up as his own daughter , he is, however, passed away.
Also new is Jamie's relatives in France. Just like his cousin Jared. Jared is a wine merchant, he tries to make Jamie to his partner what this then also possible. In France itself, the two become acquainted with the court of the king and Prince Charlie learn to know.

setting:
The book plays mainly in France. Jamie and Claire are in Paris. However, the overall story is in 1968 in Inverness, where Claire tries to find out the fate of the men of Lallybroch.

The cover is similar to the of 'Fire and Stone'. It is in Orange. To see it, is a chalice.


Conclusion:

The book is a successful continuation of 'Fire and Stone'. At first a little confusing, since we always jump between Claire's life in 1968, her life with Jamie. But all in all I liked the story well. The writing style is to follow as usual good and it is fun to read.
