Plot

Ethan ist ein gefeierter TV-Psychologe. Doch als er eines Tages zur Hochzeit seiner Ex-Freundin eingeladen wird läuft dieser Tag gehörig schief. Die Nacht davor war in einem Club und wacht mit einem Filmriss auf. Als er am Ende des Tages stirbt, muss er feststellen, dass er am nächsten Morgen aufwacht als wäre nichts gewesen und dieser Tag von neuem beginnt.

Charaktere

Ethan, ist ein TV-Psychologe. Er stammt eigentlich aus den sozial schwächeren Vierteln Bostons lebt jetzt aber in New York. Ethan hat vor ein paar Jahren, als er noch auf dem Bau lebte eine geraden Schnitt mit allem gemacht. Er ist einfach verschwunden, weg von seinen Freunden und seinem Umfeld. Nun ist er ein gefeierter Psychologe der sich von ganz unten hoch gearbeitet hat, leider aber auch total überarbeitet ist.

Charlotte, ist Ethans Ex-Freundin. Er beendete die Beziehung unerwartet und seitdem versucht sie seine Hintergründe zu erkunden. Die Geschichte startet damit, dass sie zu ihrer Hochzeit einlädt. Obwohl sie gebürtig aus Frankreich kommt, will sie ihre Hochzeit in New York feiern.

Weitere Charaktere sind Ethans alte Freunde, das junge Mädchen, Schicksal, Karma und seine Sekretärin.

Schicksal und Karma versuchen jeweils Ethans Tag auf ihre Seite zu ziehen und ihn auf ihren Weg zu führen.

Schreibstil

Musso gliedert das Buch in 3 Teile, sie stehen stellvertretend für 3 Tage. Am 1. Tag ist noch alles unverständlich, dramatisch und neu. Hier werden die Charaktere, das Umfeld und Ethan selbst eingeführt. Der Tag wird nur aus seiner Sicht erzählt. Nur am Ende kommt einmal ganz kurz Karma zu sprechen.

Am 2. Tag versucht er die Gegebenheiten zu verändern. Die Story rutscht in den Hintergrund. Was zählt ist Ethans denken und handeln. Seine Reaktionen zu verschiedenen Handlungssträngen und Wendungen.

Der 3. Tag beschreibt hauptsächlich wie es alles Enden wird. Hier werden die Charakterbindungen in den Vordergrund gestellt. Auch kommt Charlotte zu Wort. Sie beschreibt ihre Bindung zu Ethan, genauso wie seine Ex-Freunde.

Setting

Das Buch spielt hauptsächlich in New York. Ethan lebt hier auf einem Hausboot. Auch bewegt er sich dort hauptsächlich und auch die Geschichte hat dort ihren Hauptpunkt.

Fazit

Nach 'eine himmlische Begegnung' ist dies mal wieder mehr Musso. Wir haben einen Kriminalfall im Mittelpunkt, sowie eine französische Protagonistin und einen leichten Touch von Fantasy. 

Im Mittelpunkt dieses Buch steht der Versuch innerhalb eines Tages alle Fehler der letzten fünfzehn Jahre wieder gut zumachen. Ethan benötigt hierfür drei Anläufe. 

Was mir sehr gut gefallen hat ist die Unterteilung der Geschichte in drei Teile, die je nach Tagen gestaffelt sind. In jeder dieser drei Tagen steht ein anderer Aspekt im Focus, mal ist es das detailreiche, mal die Handlung und mal die Charaktere. 

Auch gefällt mir Ethan als Protagonist der Story. Er ist Psychologe, es ist also seine Aufgabe alle um ihn herum zu entschlüsseln. Jedoch schafft er es nicht mal selbst sich zu verstehen und zu helfen. Das macht ihn zum perfekten Anti-Protagonisten. Ein Mann der eigentlich das Leben anderer ordnen soll, schafft es nicht sein eigenes zu ordnen. Und treibt somit sowohl sich als auch andere in den Abgrund.

Alles in allem mal wieder ein typischer Musso, nach allen Kriterien, mit einer wunderschönen Geschichte im Mittelpunkt.

When he dies at the end of the day, he discovers that he wakes up the next morning as if nothing had and that day begins again.

characters

Ethan, is a TV psychologist. He is originally from the socially disadvantaged neighborhoods Boston but now lives in New York. Ethan has made a straight cut with all a few years ago, when he lived in the neighbourhood. He just disappeared, away from his friends and his environment. Now he is a celebrated psychologist who has worked from the bottom up, but unfortunately totally revised.

Charlotte, is Ethan's ex-girlfriend. He ended the relationship unexpectedly and since then she tries to explore his background. The story starts with the fact that she invites him to her wedding. Although she is a native of France, she wants to celebrate their wedding in New York.

Other characters are Ethan's old friends, the young girl, fate, karma and his secretary.

writing style

Musso has organized the book in 3 parts, they are representative for 3 days. On Day 1, everything is still incomprehensible dramatically and new. Here, the characters, the environment and Ethan even be introduced. The day is told only from his perspective. Only at the end comes very briefly to speak Karma once.
On day 2 he tries to change the circumstances. The story slips into the background. What counts is how Ethan thinks and acts. His reactions to different storylines and turns.
The Day 3 describes mainly how it will all end. Here the character of bonds are placed in the foreground. Even Charlotte has her say. She describes her relationship to Ethan, just like his ex-friends.


setting

The book plays mainly in New York. Ethan lives here on a houseboat. He also moves there mainly and history has there its main point.


conclusion

After 'a heavenly encounter' this is again more Musso. We have a criminal case at the center, and a French heroine and a slight touch of fantasy.
The focus of this book is the attempt in one day to close all the errors of the past fifteen years, again for good. Ethan needed for this three tries.

What I really liked is the division of the story  into three parts, which are graded according to days. In each of these three days, another aspect is the focus, sometimes it's the detailed, sometimes the plot and even the characters.

Also I like Ethan as the protagonist of the story. He is a psychologist, so it is his job to decipher all around him. However, he did not even make it himself to understand and to help. This makes him the perfect anti-protagonists. A man who is supposed to organize the lives of others, can not make it to organize its own. And thus drives both himself and others into the abyss.

All in all, again a typical Musso, for all criteria, with a beautiful story at the center.
