Auch dieses Buch tummelte sich schon etwas länger auf meinem Stapel herum. Ich hatte im Jahre 2013 den Film gesehen und kurz darauf beschlossen mir das Buch zu kaufen bin jedoch nie wirklich dazu gekommen es zu lesen.
Plot:
Lena Duchaness kommt neu in die Kleinstadt Gaitlin in South Carolina. Dort trifft sie auf den jungen Ethan Wate. Gaitlin ist eine Gemeinschaft, hier kennt jeder jeden und es leben die selben Familien dort seit dem Bürgerkrieg. Lena zieht zu ihrem Onkel dem zurückgezogenen Macon Ravenswood auf eine Plantage weit ab von der Stadt. Als Ethan sie das erste mal sieht ist er sofort von ihr hypnotisiert. Als er Lena eines Tages folgt finden sie ein altes Amulett und in dem sie es Berühren sehen sie beide die Geschichte der Geneviev Duchaness und des Südstaatensoldaten Ethan Wate. Sehr bald erfährt Ethan das Lena ein 'Carster', also eine art Hexe ist und an ihrem 16.Geburtstag auf die Seite des Lichts oder der Dunkelheit wechseln muss, doch für Ethan ist es bereits zu spät, er hat sich in Lena verliebt.
Charakter:
Es gibt auf beiden Seiten ein weit angelegtes Feld von Charakteren. Wir haben Lena's komplette Familie, ihr Onkel Macon, ihr Tante mit Mann und vier Kindern und Großmutter. Sie alle spielen eine zentrale Rolle in der Handlung des Buches. Lena selbst ist sehr vorsichtig und hardert oft mit sich selbst und ihrem Schicksal. Sie liebt ihren Onkel Macon, kann jedoch seine Übervorsichtigkeit nicht recht verstehen. Lena versucht oft Dinge zu verschweigen, damit sie ihnen dann in Ruhe auf den Grund gehen kann, des weiteren ist sie von Anfang an überzeugt ein 'Freak' zu sein und hält daher an Erinnerungstücken sehr fest.
Auf der anderen Seite steht Ethan. Ethan lebt mit seinem Vater, der Haushälterin und seinen drei Tanten. Auch diese spielen zentrale Rollen. Des weiteren sind auf seiner Seite sein bester Freund Link und dessen Mutter wichtig, so wie seine Ex-Freundin. Ethan hasst das Leben in der Kleinstadt. Er findet sie beengt und altmodisch. Ethan versucht alles um Lena bei sich zu halten, selbst wenn es ihn in Gefahr bringt.

Das Cover ist in schwarz mit lila Schrift. Grau abgezeichnet wird ein Wald.
Fazit:
Die Rahmenhandlung ist gut. Die Charaktere sind gut ausgearbeitet und entwickelt. Jedoch erscheinen sie mir wie auch bei anderen Büchern für 15 Jährige etwas sehr weit entwickelt und sehr fokusiert. So verhält sich Lena eher wie jemand um die 18 als eine 15-jährige, welche vielleicht noch in der Pubertät steckt, aber okay bei Twilight wirkt Bella ja auch nicht wie 17.
Sehr gut finde ich den Gruppenzwang Aspekt ausgearbeitet. Savannah mag Lena nicht also ist innerhalb kürzester Zeit die komplette Schule gegen sie, genauso wie die ganze Stadt. Nur weil sie anders ist.

Plot:
Lena Duchaness comes new in the small town Gaitlin in South Carolina. There she meets the young Ethan Wate. Gaitlin is a community, everybody knows each other here and there are living the same families since the Civil War. Lena moves in with her uncle the retracted Macon Ravenswood onto a plantation far away from the city. As Ethan sees her the first time he is immediately mesmerized by her. One day when he follows Lena they find an ancient amulet and where they see the the history of Geneviev Duchaness and Southern soldiers Ethan Wate as they toucht it. Very soon learns Ethan that Lena is a 'Carster', that is a kind of witch and on her 16th birthday she has to change to the side of the light or the dark, but for Ethan, it's already too late, he has fallen in love with Lena.
Character:
There are on both sides of a widely applied field of characters. We have Lena's entire family, her uncle Macon, her aunt with her husband and four children and grandmother. They all play a central role in the plot of the book. Lena herself is very cautious and often is critical with herselves and her fate. She loves her Uncle Macon, but can not quite understand his over carefulness Lena often tries to conceal things, so she can go in peace to the bottom of them them, further she is convinced from the outset to be a 'freak' and therefore holds on very firmly to memorabilia.
On the other hand there is Ethan. Ethan lives with his father, the housekeeper and his three aunts. They also play central roles. Furthermore, on his side, his best friend and his mother Link are important as his ex-girlfriend. Ethan hates life in the small town. He finds them cramped and outdated. Ethan tried everything to keep Lena with him, even if it puts him in danger.

The cover is black with purple writing. Is endorsed a gray forest.
Conclusion:
The background story is good. The characters are well worked out and developed. However, they seem to me like something very developed for 15 years and very focused. So Lena somehow behaves more like a 18-year-old than her 15-years, with perhaps puberty still in progress , but okay in Twilight Bella does not act as 17, as well.
Very good I think, is the peer pressure aspect elaborated. Savannah hates Lena so within a short time the entire school is against her, just like the whole city. Just because she is different.
